Xwind, LLC was founded in April, 2006 for the sole purpose of helping pilots achieve crosswind landing excellence.
Brad Whitsitt, the founder, owner, and president, is an electrical engineer, certified flight instructor, and former Cessna Citation captain. His flying experience dates back to 1992 and he has logged more than 4000 flight hours.
While flight instructing, Brad recognized that many pilots struggle to master crosswind skills. Some pilots receive very limited practice time and often develop detrimental habits in the process. He decided to apply his engineering background to the problem.
Brad's goal was to find a way to place pilots in gusty crosswind scenarios for extended periods of time in order to make pilot reactions to crosswinds automatic. This goal also demanded that a trainer demonstrate forces on the body along with proper peripheral visual cues.
The Xwind 200 Crosswind Landing Trainer was born from 4 years of Research and Development with a prototype. In that research, Brad discovered that many pilots need improvement in three areas:
- Technical understanding of correct crosswind landing procedures.
- Much more crosswind landing practice.
- Stronger rudder skills.
Research also revealed that crosswinds are the #1 cause of weather related accidents and gusts are #2 each and every year. When weather is a factor, crosswinds cause more accidents than fog, thunderstorms, and icing combined!. This simulator is designed to attack the top two causes of weather accidents.
